In the last couple of decades, western medicine has been making strides to come back to nature’s essential wisdom. There are alternatives on many fronts to help heal, and to aid in bringing us all back into balance with the natural rhythm of our bodies. When I learned that Greenwich Hospital was researching heavily into creating such a center, I knew that creating a harmonious space was as critical as finding the finest physicians.
It is my great good fortune to have been chosen to help in the Center’s creation. The 12,000 square feet of space on the Mianus River was ready to be analysed and thoughtfully planned. In Flying Stars feng shui, the facing direction and the time something is built dictates the pattern of energy.
The entrance is always important, and in this case, the doorway invited in what is called the wealth star. Enhancing this was easy; we adorned it with red pots, bamboo and a large waterfall. If this had not been the wealth area, these things would not be there. Upon entering, you immediately feel the calm and serene vibration that actually permeates the Center. Next, you see curved walls and an oval waiting room, that embraces you and makes you feel welcomed, at home and safe.
In addition to placing the treatment rooms in an area that best matched the activity to go on there, physician’s offices were chosen to match their roles and the unique energy of each individual by doing their Four Pillars of Destiny (Chinese Astrology) charts. This kind of fine-tuning has made a huge difference in the quality of work, as well as the well being of those working there. If the staff is not well and happy, how can they bring wellness to their patients?
Literally, every room, hallway, piece of furniture and fabric was selected to optimize the highest and most appropriate vibration. If a room needed the metal element, you would find round, shiny shapes or a metallic picture frame. If it required a bit of fire, a red object would be placed.
If, for instance, the qi was an unhealthy wood paired with earth, adding a bit of fire would ‘bridge’ the two types of qi. Without bridging, wood qi, like roots, will devour the soil, or annoy the earth. The people in that space may be in an atmosphere of annoyance and not know why. These subtle adjustments act like the tuning fork, or acupuncture needle to the space; it just has to be accurate. Traditional, Flying Stars feng shui has so much more precision to it than just hanging a crystal. It is far deeper in its approach and execution to logically bring all of the qi, visible and invisible into balance.
